The towers are 69 metres high while the spire, a 19th-century addition, soars to a height of 90 metres. Immortalised in Victor Hugo’s novel The Hunchback of Notre Dame, the cathedral is a Gothic masterpiece enhanced by delicate stone filigree work. Before you enter the nave and admire the fine stained-glass windows, some of which date back to the Middle Ages, don’t forget to look up at the ghoulish gargoyles that adorn the roof gutters of the building.
